About this opportunity

Mzuri Wildlife Foundation is a California charity, founded in 1969 by members of a safari club, that funds small community-level organisations protecting wildlife and their habitats anywhere in the world. Grants of $5,000 to $15,000 back grassroots work where a single grant makes a pivotal difference: habitat enhancement, anti-poaching patrols, wildlife research, and outdoor education that connects young people and women to the natural world through hunting, fishing and other outdoor sports. The foundation funds registered nonprofits rather than individuals, and the route in is a short letter of inquiry.

What you get:

A grant of $5,000 to $15,000, with larger awards considered for exceptional or extraordinary projects
Funding sized for grassroots work that can be completed within one year
Possible continuous funding for multi-year projects that meet the guidelines
A funder whose directors and staff visit grantees in the field and stay in regular contact

What you'll do:

Submit a letter of inquiry giving your organisation's mission, tax ID, annual budget, the amount requested and a detailed account of how the grant would be spent
If the letter is approved, complete the formal application Mzuri sends you and email it back as a PDF
Deliver a project with measurable goals that Mzuri directors and staff can observe first hand during the project term
Report on progress against the goals, objectives and outcomes set out in your proposal

Key dates:

Letters of inquiry due September 15, 2026
Formal applications due November 1, 2026, by invitation only
Grant decisions announced by the end of March 2027
Grantee final reports due December 1

More information:

Full funding criteria, and the list of what Mzuri will not fund, are on the grantmaking guidelines page at https://mzuri.org/grantmaking-guidelines/
Letters of inquiry and completed applications go to info@mzuri.org. There is no online form
Grantee case studies are on the wildlife conservation and outdoor sports and education pages
