Migrant Women Press is a non-profit, independent media organisation led by migrant women and women of colour, based in Scotland. Its second cohort of eight fellows will spend seven months turning one story idea into a published feature, with training from working journalists, a mentor of their own, and a paid part-time placement in a newsroom. It is built for women who are studying journalism, media or communications in Scotland, or who finished a relevant course within the last three years. **What you get:** - A £600 stipend, paid as £300 in October 2026 and £300 at the end of January 2027 once the final story is submitted - Professional training led by journalists, editors, academics and industry experts, covering writing and reporting, multimedia journalism, fact-checking and verification, investigative journalism, media law and ethics, AI in journalism, and the representation of migrant and racialised communities - One-to-one mentoring with an experienced journalist, editor, producer or media professional, meeting online once a month - Editorial support to research and produce an original feature, published by Migrant Women Press online and in the Fellowship print magazine - A three-month, part-time industry placement with a media organisation, newsroom or communications team, with reasonable travel costs for in-person work covered by Migrant Women Press - CPD certified trauma-informed reporting training, worth two hours of accredited Continuing Professional Development - Fellowship meet-ups, alumni networking, and a place at the final Fellowship event in Glasgow **What you'll do:** - Pitch one story idea with a clear connection to Scotland or to communities living in Scotland as part of your application - Research, report and write that story into a feature of roughly 1,000 words, including at least two interviews and a short piece of multimedia - Attend around two training sessions a month from October 2026 to January 2027, mostly online and mostly in the evenings - Meet your mentor once a month and work to agreed editorial deadlines - Complete the self-paced trauma-informed reporting training by January 2027 and join the live Q&A that follows it - Take up a placement of one or two days a week from February to April 2027, in person, online or hybrid - Take part in the programme evaluation and, where possible, attend the final event in Glasgow **Key dates:** - Applications close Sunday 13 September 2026 at 11:59pm - Selection takes place in the second half of September, with applicants informed of the outcome by 28 September 2026 - Fellowship runs early October 2026 to April 2027 - Training runs October 2026 to January 2027 - Online publication January 2027, print magazine February 2027 - Industry placements February to April 2027 - Final Fellowship event in Glasgow, April 2027 **More information:** - The Applicant Guide and Q&A sets out eligibility, the time commitment, accessibility support and how selection works - The Fellowship Concept Note explains why the programme exists and what it aims to achieve - Applications are assessed against the eligibility criteria first, then reviewed independently by two external assessors using the same framework - Questions, reasonable adjustments and accessibility support: migrantwomenpress@gmail.com
