King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), a graduate research university on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia, admits Master's and PhD students from any country into its science, engineering and technology programmes. Every admitted student automatically receives the KAUST Fellowship, which KAUST values at 70,000 to 80,000 US dollars a year: full tuition, a monthly stipend, campus housing, health insurance and relocation costs. Who can apply

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject from a recognised institution for entry to a Master's programme; Master's degree in a relevant subject for entry to a Ph.D. programme (professional master's degrees are not treated as equivalent)
  • At least 18 years of age on entry
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale or equivalent; 90 percent of admitted applicants have above 3.3 and 75 percent above 3.5
  • English proficiency: IELTS 7.0 overall with at least 6.5 in each section, TOEFL iBT 5 overall with at least 4.5 in each section, PTE Academic 71 with at least 67 in each section, or Cambridge C1/C2 185 with at least 176 in each section; exempt if your degree was completed in person in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand
  • You may apply without an English score but must meet the minimum before enrolment if admitted
  • Application documents: official transcripts (partial transcripts accepted if your degree is unfinished), CV, statement of purpose of about 750 words, contact details of three referees with academic or professional email addresses, and a passport copy (or Saudi national ID)
  • All documents must be in English or accompanied by a certified English translation
  • GRE or PGAT scores are optional; a strong score may strengthen the application
