About this opportunity

The International Trans Fund is a participatory grantmaker that funds trans-led groups around the world, with grant decisions made by a panel of 15 trans activists. Its 11th grant cycle is open to groups with annual budgets under US$100,000, registered or not, and offers one-year SEED grants for groups ITF has never funded and THRIVE grants for returning grantee partners. Applications are accepted in English, French, Russian, Spanish and Simplified Chinese.

What you get:

SEED grant (first-time applicants): US$10,000 to US$25,000 for one year, as general support or project funding
THRIVE grant (groups ITF has funded before and in good standing): US$25,000 to US$50,000 for one year of general support
Optional funding webinars and application walkthroughs, with interpretation into several languages
Feedback on your application on request

What you'll do:

Create an organisational profile in ITF's grants portal, then complete one application, SEED or THRIVE, not both
Describe how trans people lead your group and how your work builds trans movements, not only direct services
Submit a funding request and budget for one year of work
Share two references who know your group

Key dates:

Applications opened 6 October 2026
Applications close 1 December 2026 (no closing time stated)
January 2027: eligibility screening and translation
February to April 2027: Grant Making Panel reviews eligible applications
June 2027: in-person Grant Making Panel meeting selects grantees
July to August 2027: groups notified; disbursement begins in August (ITF says the timeline can vary slightly)

Who can apply

Trans-led: trans people hold key decision-making roles, including strategy and budget, and make up at least 75% of staff, Board, spokespeople or decision-making body; groups below 75% must clearly show how trans people lead budget, strategy and direction

A group of two or more people; individuals are not funded
Registered or unregistered groups may apply
Main focus of work benefits trans people and communities

THRIVE is only for groups previously funded by ITF and in good standing; one application per group per cycle, and you cannot switch grant type once started

!Closing time and timezone are not stated; LOT shows 23:59 UTC. ITF's last cycle closed at 11.59 pm ET, so submit early
!First-time groups can only apply for SEED (US$10,000 to US$25,000); the US$50,000 ceiling is THRIVE, for previous ITF grantees
!Highly competitive: ITF says it funds about 10 to 20% of eligible applications (FAQ says 10 to 15%); in cycle 9 it received 465 eligible applications
!Decisions take about 8 months; grants are disbursed from August 2027
!No age requirement; this is for groups, not individuals, so young people apply through a trans-led group or collective
