Hopelab Artist-in-Residence Program

Hopelab is running its first artist residency, taking on four emerging artists aged 18 to 29 from anywhere in the United States. Over three months you develop new work, or finish existing work, at the intersection of art, mental health and youth well-being. The residency is paid, and the retreat and the closing showcase are both covered. What you get: ➤ USD 7,500 living stipend for the three-month residency ➤ USD 2,500 materials budget you direct yourself, not tied to any medium ➤ Mentorship from a practising artist plus the Hopelab and Djerassi teams ➤ One week at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program in the Santa Cruz Mountains, with travel, lodging and meals covered ➤ A public showcase in San Francisco in November, with travel, lodging and meals covered ➤ Access to Hopelab's network of researchers, youth advocates and technologists ➤ A letter of support and professional documentation of your finished work ➤ A place in Hopelab's digital database of artists, which every applicant gets whether selected or not What you'll do: ➤ Create new work or complete an existing project on art, liberatory mental health and youth well-being ➤ Join biweekly check-ins and guest lectures across the three months ➤ Attend the Djerassi retreat in person from October 5 to 11, 2026 ➤ Present at the public showcase in San Francisco on or around November 5, 2026 ➤ Submit a work sample, a statement and your community context as the application
