Up to DKK 100,000 Development Grant

Organization: Hesse-Ragle Fonden

Type: Grant

Location: Denmark

Deadline: September 30, 2026

Funding: Fully Funded

Hesse-Ragle Fonden is a Danish grant-making foundation, set up in Copenhagen in 2007, that funds social and educational projects delivered in developing countries. It backs concrete, measurable work carried out by or alongside an established organisation, and its past grants have paid for school buildings, solar kitchens, maternal health tools and schooling for girls across Africa and South and Southeast Asia. The project runs overseas, but the organisation applying has to be registered in Denmark: a CVR number is a required field on the form, and the foundation states it does not fund projects run by foreign organisations. **What you get:** - A grant of DKK 50,000 to DKK 100,000, paid to the applying organisation - Funding sized to cover a whole project, or a clearly separable part of a larger one - Around 10 to 15 grants approved each year from an annual pool the foundation expects to exceed DKK 1,000,000 **What you'll do:** - Run a concrete, measurable project whose primary activity takes place in a developing country - Deliver the work through, or in partnership with, a recognised organisation - Complete and report on the project within a year, so results can be reviewed at the following board meeting - Stay available for follow-up questions between submitting and the board's decision, and for ongoing dialogue if funded **Key dates:** - Applications close September 30, 2026 - The board decides all grants at a single annual meeting, usually in late November - Applications arriving after the cut-off are carried forward to the next annual round **More information:** - The foundation presents its criteria as guidelines rather than fixed rules, and says it will still consider applications that do not meet all of them - Themes it names as areas of particular experience: education, health, workforce, economic security, and self sufficiency initiatives - Past work has concentrated in Africa and South and Southeast Asia, with a stated particular focus on Africa, but the foundation says it is not limited to those regions - Two board seats are held by representatives of recognised Danish charitable organisations, who may nominate projects from their own organisations; the foundation states that grants to those organisations are not unusual - The foundation says it receives more applications than it can fund and cannot guarantee a reply to every enquiry - The website, the criteria and the application form are published in Danish only, with no English version - The foundation's statutes are published as a PDF at https://hr-fond.dk/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/vedtaegter.pdf - Questions go to chairman Kim Ragle; the address kim@ragle.dk appears in the site markup

Who can apply

The applicant must hold a CVR number, the Danish business register identifier. Private individuals cannot apply
Applications are accepted from associations, organisations and companies
The foundation does not provide support to projects run by foreign organisations
The project's primary activity must take place in a developing country
The project must be carried out by, or in collaboration with, a recognised organisation
A newer association without further history may be required to obtain backing from a well established organisation that vouches for delivery before the grant is given
The grant must fund a concrete, measurable effort
The amount requested must be able to finance the whole project, or a clear part of a larger project whose results are explicitly visible
The project or sub-project should be completed and reported within one year
Projects are expected to be built on the principle of help to self-help
No age criterion is stated anywhere on the site or in the statutes; the applicant is an organisation rather than a person, so ageMin and ageMax being null reflects an absent criterion rather than an unread source

Good to know

+DKK 50,000 to DKK 100,000 for a specific, measurable project, free to apply.
+You can apply unsolicited through the foundation's own form. You do not need an introduction.
+It funds work in developing countries, mostly education, health and workforce development, delivered overseas.
+Unusually transparent for a small foundation: it publishes its criteria and discloses its own board conflicts of interest.

Worth checking yourself

!Your organisation must be registered in Denmark and hold a Danish CVR number. The foundation states plainly that it does not support projects run by foreign organisations, so an overseas partner needs a Danish organisation to apply on its behalf.
!Individuals cannot apply at all.
!30 September is the cut-off for the single annual decision, which is taken in late November. Anything later rolls to next year.
!The whole site and the application form are in Danish.
!The board also sources projects itself, so an unsolicited application competes with ones it went looking for.
