Good to know

+Squarely on LOT's mission and squarely on LOT's age range: a free ocean-advocacy community for ages 13 to 25
+Real scale, stated on the homepage: over 1,500 fellow ocean advocates from more than 100 countries
+Ongoing programming rather than a one-off: monthly events and virtual trainings, plus a quarterly Action Challenge
+There is a small real money route for the current quarter: the first 30 members to sign up for the challenge are eligible for 100 US dollars in project funds for cleanup supplies
+Run by EarthEcho International, an established US non-profit with a published address and phone

Worth checking yourself

!The apply link is a membership request form, not an application, and access is approval-gated: you request an invitation then wait 1 to 2 days before you can create an account
!The signup form makes 'Who invited you to join this community?' a REQUIRED field. A young person arriving from LOT with no referrer has no honest answer, and this is the most likely point at which they drop out
!The form requires a full birth date to enforce the age gate
!Almost all substance sits behind the login. The monthly events have no published calendar and the Action Challenge rules are only visible to members
!No funding, stipend, credential or place is attached to membership itself. The 100 dollar micro-grant is limited to 30 members of one quarterly challenge
