About this opportunity

Azal is an open call from Doha Design District, powered by Msheireb Properties, for ready or near-ready solutions to real urban, environmental, economic and social challenges. Winning solutions get funding, support and the chance to be tested or piloted in Msheireb Downtown Doha, with Siemens and Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) as strategic partners.

What you get:

Two award categories: Best Smart City Innovation Award and Best Smart City Sustainability Award
Each category winner receives funding and support, subject to solution requirements, technical feasibility and required approvals
The chance to demonstrate, test, pilot or deploy your solution in Msheireb Downtown Doha, a real smart city environment, in Q1 to Q2 2027
Mentoring for shortlisted teams from Siemens experts on technical feasibility, scalability and deployment
Pitch refinement support from QSTP for the Top 10 ahead of Downtown Tech

What you'll do:

Submit a solution addressing a smart city or sustainability challenge in Msheireb Downtown Doha, in Arabic or English
Describe how it works, its readiness, expected impact, implementation needs, estimated pilot budget and commercial model
If shortlisted (Top 10), give a 5 minute live pitch on stage at Downtown Tech in Doha
If you win, sign an agreement with Msheireb Properties and move into pilot and implementation

Shortlisting and evaluation committee review 11 November 2026
Live pitching at Downtown Tech 17 November 2026 (10 shortlisted applicants)

Who can apply

Open to everyone, subject to applicable laws and organiser requirements
The solution must address a smart city or sustainability challenge and be able to be demonstrated, tested, piloted or deployed in Msheireb Downtown Doha
The solution should be ready or near-ready; concept-only ideas needing significant early-stage development will not be prioritised
You must have the right to submit and present the solution, and it must be your own work
You may submit more than one solution
Submissions in Arabic or English
