About this opportunity

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) pays for university students and graduates from outside Germany to spend four weeks in Germany on an intensive German language and culture course run by a German university in summer 2027. Courses are taught only in German and run between June and September, so you need a recognised German language certificate before you apply.

What you get:

The full cost of a four week language course, at least 25 teaching hours a week
A single room for the length of the course, arranged by the course provider (student residence, shared flat or host household)
A one-time allowance of EUR 475, paid in cash on arrival, to cover food and day to day costs
A country-specific travel allowance, a fixed lump sum from EUR 211 to EUR 1,735 return depending on where you travel from, also paid on arrival
Health, accident and personal liability insurance arranged by DAAD

What you'll do:

Pick three courses at three different locations from DAAD's 2027 course list, which covers general German, regional studies and subject-specific German
Attend in person for four weeks, five days a week, between June and September 2027
Sit a final language test at the end of the course, at no cost to you

Key dates:

Applications opened 1 September 2026
Applications close 30 October 2026 at 23:59 Central European Time
Results are usually sent in March 2027
Accept the scholarship within 14 days of the offer
Courses run between June and September 2027, four weeks each
