The Congressional App Challenge is the official coding competition of the U.S. House of Representatives for middle and high school students, run for the House by the nonprofit Internet Education Foundation. Students build an original app on any topic, in any programming language and for any platform, and the Member of Congress for their district picks the winner. Who can apply

  • Enrolled in middle school or high school on October 26, 2026
  • U.S. resident at the time of submission; U.S. citizenship is not required
  • You must compete in a congressional district that is hosting a 2026 challenge, either where you live or where you attend school, and in only one district
  • Individuals or teams of up to four; at least half of a team must live or attend school in the district it enters
  • One app per student per year; the app must be your own original work and created after October 30, 2025
  • Registration needs a personal (non-school) email address, home and school addresses with 9-digit zip codes, and a parent or guardian's name and email
