Brooke Owens Aerospace Fellowship (Class of 2027)

Organization: Brooke Owens Fellowship Program

Type: Fellowship

Location: Global

Deadline: October 4, 2026

Funding: No Funding

The Brooke Owens Fellowship Program is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit set up in 2016 in memory of Dawn Brooke Owens, a pilot and space policy expert, and it exists to change who gets a start in aerospace. Every year it selects a class of undergraduate women and gender minorities, pairs each of them with two mentors, and connects them to host organisations across the aviation and space industry. Applications for the Class of 2027 are open to students anywhere in the world, and the application deliberately looks past grades: there is no minimum GPA, every academic background is welcome, and one of the three pieces you submit has to be something other than a written essay. **What you get:** - Two mentors for the length of the Fellowship and beyond: an Executive Mentor from the aerospace industry and a Brookie Alumni Mentor - A place at the annual Brooke Owens Summit, held in July, plus the Alumni Summit - Workshops, panels and private question and answer sessions with astronauts and chief executives - Introductions to opportunities at aerospace and aviation host organisations, where fellows have historically taken paid summer internships - Career development resources and professional development programming across the summer - A lifelong network of more than 350 Brookie alumni working in engineering, research, policy, journalism and entrepreneurship **What you'll do:** - Spend the summer working with the Fellowship and its network on aerospace and aviation opportunities. Past fellows have worked on rocket propulsion, satellite operations, aerospace policy, STEM outreach and mission planning - Meet your class in July at the annual Brooke Owens Summit and take part in group events with mentors - Work through the year with an Executive Mentor and a Brookie Alumni Mentor on career direction - Join workshops, panels and collaborative projects, then stay in the alumni community afterwards **Key dates:** - Applications opened September 1, 2026 - Virtual info session, Sunday September 13, 2026 at 2pm EDT - Virtual info session featuring international students, Saturday September 19, 2026 at 12pm EDT - Virtual info session, Monday September 28, 2026 at 10pm EDT - Applications close Sunday October 4, 2026 at 11:59pm EDT - Semifinalists notified within a few weeks of the application closing, then interviews - Full class announced in the winter - Fellowship runs across the summer, with the Brooke Owens Summit in July **More information:** - Eligibility, the full materials list and all five multimedia essay prompts are on the Fellowship's apply page - The FAQ covers selection, timeline and host companies, though several answers are still written for the Class of 2026 - Ask a Brookie puts questions to past fellows and is free and open to every applicant - Guides, past multimedia essays and info session recordings are published in the Fellowship's own Application Resources folder

Good to know

+Free to apply, confirmed on the apply page, in the FAQ and in the application portal
+US citizenship is not required and students of all nationalities are welcome, which their own FAQ states plainly
+Mentorship, resources and Summit access go to every fellow regardless of whether a host placement is found
+Co-founded by a former NASA Deputy Administrator, and a registered 501(c)(3)

Worth checking yourself

!Closes 4 October at 11:59pm Eastern, not the earlier date circulating elsewhere
!Open to women and gender minorities, including nonbinary and gender non-conforming applicants
!Unpaid. Their current pages name no stipend, and the Fellowship no longer guarantees a host-company internship. An old page still promising a living wage describes 2017 and is not part of the current programme
!US export rules limit which host companies are open to applicants who are not US citizens
