Good to know

  • +Up to $5,000 in project funding reaches you directly, to spend on your own peace or justice project rather than being spent on your behalf.
  • +Free to apply, and PeaceJam publishes the full question list and a programme brief before you start, so you can see exactly what you are committing to.
  • +Entirely virtual across nine monthly sessions from November to August, so there is no travel cost and no visa to arrange wherever you are.
  • +Applications are judged on the substance of your idea, not on polished English, which matters if you do not write in English first.
  • +PeaceJam has run since 1996 with fourteen Nobel Peace Laureates involved, and last year's fellows are named publicly so you can see who came before you.
  • +You get one to one coaching alongside the money, not just a payment.

Worth checking yourself

  • !PeaceJam gives two different closing dates. Their programme page says 28 September and the application form says 1 October. Apply by 28 September and you are safe either way.
  • !The $5,000 is described as a maximum on their website, so plan for the possibility of less.
  • !You need a peace, justice or equity project already under way. This funds work you have started, not an idea from scratch.
  • !No closing time is published, so treat the 28th as ending at midnight rather than leaving it to the final hours.
