Good to know

  • +Up to $150,000 at three levels, so an early-stage company can start with $10,000 to $50,000
  • +A clear 15-page guide sets out who qualifies, the documents you need and how applications are judged
  • +One application covers what used to be six separate Alberta Innovates programmes
  • +Companies judged a strategic fit get a Technology Development Advisor, and every funded company gets a Grant Advisor
  • +Free to apply

Worth checking yourself

  • !You must put in at least 25 percent of the project's eligible costs in cash: Alberta Innovates pays at most 75 percent
  • !Alberta Innovates gives no closing date and reviews applications in batches. 31 December 2026 is LOT's working deadline, not theirs, so apply early
  • !Only companies registered in Alberta, with significant operations and appropriate ownership there, can apply
  • !For-profit companies only, with fewer than 250 employees and up to three years of financial statements, so a young founder needs an incorporated company
  • !Only costs after the funding agreement is signed are covered, and travel, training and the cost of applying are not
  • !A company with an active project in another Alberta Innovates programme cannot apply; the guide lists one more such programme than the web page does
  • !You apply through Alberta Innovates' online portal, which needs an account
