A podcast to help parents and children hear each other

Rokaya Amr AbuAlela Zaki Mohamed is building a podcast and blog in Egypt to help parents and children hear one another, and wants to add guided workshops.

It starts in Egypt, in the communities where, Rokaya Amr AbuAlela Zaki Mohamed says, conversations between parents and children "are needed most but are rarely given a voice".

She is a student at Ain Shams University, and she is building a platform, through a new podcast and blog, "designed to help parents and children truly hear one another". Through guided workshops, she wants to move past what she calls the 'aggressive' or 'strict' communication styles "that stifle us" and replace them with understanding.

“Freedom isn't a word, but an action”

She has spent a lot of time, she says, thinking about how we can change the world for the better. "While we often look to global initiatives like the SDGs, I’ve realized that real, lasting change starts at the most fundamental level: the family."

"Having navigated the challenges of feeling unheard, I know the weight of the silence between generations," she says. "My goal is to change that narrative."

The podcast and blog are new. The workshops are still a want.

"I’m ready to bridge the gap," she says.
